Featured Family Events in August
The lakeshore communities of West Michigan do a fantastic job of hosting events and activities that include the whole family. There's so much happening that is geared specifically toward kids and families as a whole, and that's part of what makes being here so amazing!
Every season in West Michigan has it's unique, fun things to do for kids of all ages- from babies up to the "young at heart". Indoors or outdoors, no matter the time of year, there's always something great going on along the lakeshore for families to experience together!
Sandcastles Children's Museum and the Ludington and Scottville branches of the Mason County District Libraries!

Manistee County Fair at the Onekama Fairgrounds along Portage Lake on M-22.
Thursday, August 15th, 7:30pm
Movies in the Park featuring Mary Poppins Returns at Rotary Park- corner of Ludington Avenue and Lewis St. in downtown Ludington.
Friday, August 16th-Sunday, August 18th
Hoxeyville Music Festival in Wellston. Americana and Roots music festival with camping and children's programming.
Saturday, August 17th
8:30am - Hart LakeFest. Youth Fishing Derby at 8:30am at John Gurney Park, Whatever Floats Your Boat Regata at 11am in Veterans Park, Paddling Event and Scavenger Hunt at 12:30pm at John Gurney Park.
7am-4pm - HELP M.A.D. Bicycle Ride at Trinity Evangelical Free Church- 1212 Monona Dr. in Ludington.
12-5pm - Big Sable Point Lighthouse Bus Tour featuring Music by Fremont John from 1:30-3:30pm. Buses transport visitors from the Ludington State Park to the lighthouse and back for fee: $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
7pm - Magic of Kevin at the Ludington State Park Amphitheater. Free program hosted by Friends of Ludington State Park.
Tuesday, August 20th-Saturday, August 24th
Oceana County Fair at the Oceana County Fairgrounds- 1025 S. State St. in Hart.
Thursday, August 22nd
7:30pm - Movies in the Park featuring Dumbo at Rotary Park- corner of Ludington Avenue and Lewis St. in downtown Ludington.
8-10pm - Sunset Beach Bonfire at Stearns Park in Ludington featuring music by John Merchant.
Saturday, August 24th, 12pm
West Michigan Old Engine Club Garden Tractor Transfer Sled Pull at the Oceana County Fairgrounds- 1025 S. State St. in Hart.
Sunday, August 25th, 9am-3pm
Fountain Car Party at Sherman Township Hall- 3854 E. Main St. in Fountain. Breakfast/brat tent, craft sale, bake sale, and Chinese auction.
Friday, August 30th-Sunday, September 1st
Brethren Days at Dickson Park in Brethren.
Saturday August 31st-Monday, September 2nd
Hart Heritage Days in downtown Hart. Demonstrations, music, food booths, chicken dinner, pig roast, and more.
Saturday, August 31st-Sunday, September 1st
Honoring Our Elders Traditional Pow Wow at the Oceana County Fairgrounds- 1025 S. State St. in Hart. Intertribal dancing, native singing, storytelling, arts and crafts, food, and more. Grand Entry and Intertribal Dancing on Saturday at 1pm and 6pm and on Sunday at 1pm. Free admission.
