In Manistee County, anglers hit the Manistee River for trout and salmon and experience great catches charter fishing on Lake Michigan out of Manistee.
The Pere Marquette River starts at the confluence of the Middle Branch and Little South Branch, and flows in a westerly direction for approximately 67 miles to its mouth at Pere Marquette Lake, just south of the City of Ludington. The Pere Marquette River has the reputation for being an outstanding steelhead and brown trout stream as well as being extremely popular with canoeists. The many outstanding natural values possessed by this river have resulted in 66.4 miles of the mainstream being proposed for inclusion under the Federal Wild and Scenic Rivers Act PL 90542.
Fishing on Lake Michigan provides some of the best fishing for steelhead, coho salmon, perch, chinook salmon, rainbow trout, lake trout, brown trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and walleye in the Midwest. The Pere Marquette Lake in Ludington is the junction point between the Pere Marquette River and Lake Michigan. Pere Marquette Lake hosts a wide variety of fish all year round and is an excellent spot for ice fishing. Plenty of public access for onshore fishing as well as lauches and marinas for boat fishing.
Hamlin Lake is more than 12 miles long and 5,000 acres large. Whether you traverse the bayous or head for deeper waters, Hamlin Lake offers a smorgasbord of fish. Tiger muskie, northern pike, large and small mouth bass, perch, crappie, bluegill and over 600,000 walleye, planted several years ago, promise a superb catch. The fishing doesn’t cool down in winter either. Tip-ups and shanties dot the ice as fishermen pull in delicious panfish and walleye.
